Literary Festival "Vratsa - Book City" is organized by the Regional Library "Hristo Botev" and is the only event of its kind, which takes place in Northwestern Bulgaria, entirely dedicated to the mission to bring together readers, publishers, artists to unite the arts and give a new interpretation of the written word, transformed into inspiring meetings and magical workshops. The literary festival aims to foster a love of books, words and reading, to inspire people of all ages to explore new ideas and expand their horizons.
The first edition was realized in 2019. It takes place every year in the last week of September.
Over the years, the literary festival "Vratsa - Book City" has welcomed the biggest names of contemporary Bulgarian literature, artists, illustrators, children's writers and artists. Georgi Gospodinov, Zakhari Karabashliev, Zdravka Evtimova, Alek Popov, Georgi Toshev, Mira Dobreva, Galin Nikiforov, Katerina Hapsali, Viktoria Beshliyska, Margarita Petkova are presented in the Hristo Botev Regional Library, Dobromir Banev, Tsvetana Maneva, Maria Kasimova-Moase, Vassil Popov, Damyan Damyanov, Radostina Nikolova, Maya Bocheva - Wiki, Donika Rizova, Katya Antonova, Nevena Basarova, Val Stoeva, Stefan Valdobrev, Nencho Ilchev.
During the festival days, a number of attractive demonstrations and creative workshops are planned and held, aimed at all students in schools in the Vratsa region.
The event is accompanied by a book bazaar, in the form of a mini book alley, located in the central pedestrian zone of the city. In 2023, 20 publishers - national and local - participated. Thousands of titles for young and old were arranged under the white tents of the publishers, along with outdoor creative workshops.
